Sip Through Summer

June gloom has officially drifted away leaving nothing but sun filled afternoons ahead. When this time of year arrives, there’s nothing I want more than a cold cocktail in my hand and a good book. But something I also want is to not have to MAKE the cocktail! I simply want it to magically appear.

And I figured out how to do it! A summer sangria is the perfect cocktail for lazy summer pool days and friendly gatherings because you can make it in advance and enjoy it whenever you’d like. While I have a recipe below, this is really a no-recipe recipe in the sense that you can’t go wrong with the ingredients. As long as you have some wine, brandy, and fruit that reflect the season, you’re sure to have a hit cocktail.

Wishing you a fun summer of sipping!

Recipe:

Ingredients:

1 bottle of red wine

1 cup of orange juice

1/2 cup of brandy

1/4 cup fine sugar

Seasonal fruit (summer):

1 apple, sliced

2 plums, sliced

1 peach, sliced

1 cup blueberries

1 can of seltzer water

Directions:

  1. Mix wine, orange juice, brandy and sugar in a serving pitcher.

  2. Once thoroughly combined, add your fruit and place in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. The longer the better! I even like to make this drink the day before so I have one less thing to worry about. The trick to this drink is giving the flavors enough time to blend together and seep into the fruit.

  3. Once you’re ready to serve, pour the sangria in a glass, splash some seltzer water and add a twist of orange peel. This will give your beverage a fun pop!
